Abstract

This collection documents Dr. Mary O'Hara's research into and relationship with Helen Bass Williams and includes research notes, correspondence, oral history recordings, interview transcripts, and published materials.

Scope and Contents This collection contains awards, certifications, and honors documenting the life and achievements in social work and disability access and awareness of Sharon Byrkett. Of most prominence is a hand-written manuscript by Byrkett titled "Understanding My Disability" written in 1983. Other materials in the collection include a journal from 1967, photo albums and scrapbooks depicting events from her personal life and conferences attended, and craft items made by Byrkett. Copy of "High Flight" poem by John Gillespie Magee Jr., affixed to board. The poem was taken by Eugene A. Cernan on Apollo 10's mission to the moon, May 18 - 26, 1969. It is inscribed by Cernan; "To Mitch Simmons - So as never to forget we took this copy of High Flight to the moon on Apollo X 18-26 May 1969.  You above all can appreciate it's significance, Sincerely Gene Cernan."

The letter of authenticity was signed by Cernan on August 25, 2010 and is housed with the poem.

The Ruth Freehafer collection on R.B. Stewart contains Freehafer's drafts of her 1983 book "R.B. Stewart and Purdue University" as well as the notes she compiled while researching Stewart, some of the sources she used, the transcript from a 1977 interview with Stewart, notes from two other interviews with Stewart and his oral history transcript, and notes from interviews conducted with Stewart's colleagues.
