B. L. Harvey scrapbook

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: MSA 390

Content Description

Scrapbook belonging to B.L. (Ben) Harvey of Lafayette, Indiana. The book was originally a ledger, with entries beginning in 1870. Later, it was used as a scrapbook by Harvey while at Purdue University from 1883 to 1889. Harvey appears to have been a student at Purdue from 1885-1888; however, there is not record of him graduating. Pasted on the pages of the ledger are newspaper clippings, ephemera, and articles related to activities at Purdue.

Highlights include College Programs and Memorial service programs for Purdue students Alanson Bryant Clark (d.1883) and William Summerfield Lingle (d. 1883). At these memorial services the President of Purdue as well as faculty spoke of the students. Additionally, there are programs for the annual entertainment from the Carlyle Literary Society, Carlyle Annual Reunion pamphlets, class of '87 and '89 poems, handwritten notes, and Purdue Alumni Association Annual Entertainment. There is also a partial excerpt from the SEATTLE Newspaper January 17, 1932, glued in the middle of the scrapbook, which includes a John McCutcheon cartoon depicting the aftermath of World War I titled "The Big Parade."
