Scope and Contents
This box includes Jacqueline Wise Gershman's Gold Pepper hat. Gershman included a note stating that the hat was worn on the black side as a pledge and that members of the organization carried a pepper coated in wax, painted gold, attached to a double string. Gershman also noted that pledges carried a cigar box filled with candy to hand out if they were stopped by fellow Gold Peppers or Reamers.
