Historical Information

The University News Service was the news disseminating office for the Purdue University West Lafayette campus. They wrote news releases, took photographs, produced radio and television programs, and provided other information to news media through the state and nation. They also maintained a photo and biography file of Purdue personnel for use by the media. The University News Service has been a part of a continually evolving organizational restructuring of units involved in marketing, news dissemination and communication, and public/alumni relations. The department’s prior name was Office of Public Information and reported to the Vice-President for Development. When it was renamed to University News Service, it reported to the Vice-President for University Relations. In 2009 the department was renamed to News Service and Media Relations. At the same time the Office of Marketing and Media was created which took responsibility of the media creation portion of the department. These two entities were later combined into the Office of Marketing and Communications.
