Scope and Contents

One framed artifact containing a small American flag, two space mission patches (Gemini IX, Stafford-Cernan) and (Apollo X, Stafford-Young-Cernan), a Purdue University Centennial Year flag (1869-1969), and a note from astronaut Eugene Cernan, "These flags and patches were carried to the moon on Apollo 10. Presented to the faculty and students of Purdue University by Commander Gene Cernan. My sincere thanks to all at Purdue for helping make this accomplishment possible." (Signed by Eugene Cernan)

Custodial History

Artifact assumed to have hung in Secretary to Purdue Board of Trustees office since circa 1969. It was then transferred to the Purdue University Archives and Special Collections on October 7, 2009. 2009-10-07.

Acquisition Information

Artfact was transferred from the office of the Secretary of the Purdue Board of Trustees, Roseanna Behringer, to the Purdue University Archives and Special Collections on July 10, 2009.
