Scope and Contents

This collection includes 30 photographs of Purdue's campus, taken when John visited Purdue along with other students and faculty from the University of Missouri in the Spring of 1973. Notations on the back of each photograph identify the building or location present.

The subjects of the photographs consist primarily of campus buildings, including but not limited to University Hall, Stewart Center, and Agriculture buildings. Also included are aerial photographs of Purdue and West Lafayette; Purdue's cattle and pig herds; the Boilermaker Special III; and some interior shots, including but not limited to: the Purdue Memorial Union lobby; entrance to the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (HSSE) Library; and a classroom in the Agronomy Learning Center.

Biographical Information

John Hardwick Ferguson was born in 1951 in Gentry County, Missouri (MO). He graduated from King City High School in 1969, and went on to earn a Bachelors and Masters in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Missouri (Mizzou). In 1973, while attending Mizzou, John and other Mizzou students and faculty visited the agricultural facilities at Purdue University.

After graduation, John taught vocational agriculture in Fredericktown and Savannah, MO, before becoming a researcher and project manager for the DeKalb County Soil & Water District. At the time of his death, John was an agricultural engineering specialist for the University of Missouri Extension Service, and a paramedic and EMT with the Gentry County Ambulance Service. John passed away in 2002.

Custodial History

The photographs were acquired by John's sister, Linda Ferguson, upon his death in 2002. Linda donated the photographs to Todd Wetzel in January 2023, where they were forwarded on to Stacey Mickelbart (February 23, 2023) and Fred Whitford (July 25, 2023). Fred donated the photographs to Purdue University Archives and Special Collections in October 2023.

Original order maintained. All materials have been housed in acid-free folders and acid-free boxes.
