The collection consists of one grant proposal for the development of a handbook for the assessment of needs of elderly Americans for state and area agency planners, composed by Robert L. Eichhorn and Cheryl A. Maurana, director and assistant director of Purdue's Health Services Research and Training Program, respectively. The paper contains valuable information regarding the history of the research and training program.

Biographical Information

Robert L. Eichhorn was born April 24, 1924 in Yates Center, Kansas. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Kansas University, his Ph.D. from Cornell University. Serving as a combat medic in World War II, he received a bronze star for his service. He taught at Purdue University for 35 years, from 1954 until 1989. With the help of many of his former graduate students, the Department of Sociology has endowed a fellowship in Professor Eichhorn's honor for a Ph.D. student in Medical Sociology. Source:
