Scope and Contents
The Indiana Engineering Society Records (1913-1937, 0.5 cubic feet) document the correspondence, activities and conferences of the Indiana Engineering Society. Highlighting individual members and other regional engineering societies, the collection shows the Indiana Engineering Society's involvement with the community. Although the records span the years of 1913 to 1937, the majority of the records cover from 1927 to 1937. Types of materials include: correspondence, meeting minutes, by-laws, financial reports, and member directories.

Historical Information
During the winter of 1880-81, a correspondence was carried on in the northern part of the State between W. A. Osmer, of Cass county, and others, and in the southern part of the State on the part of J. C. Pulse, of Decatur county, and others, in which the expediency of forming a permanent organization of the County Surveyors of the State of Indiana was discussed, which resulted in issuing of the following notice to the County Surveyors of the State.Indiana Engineering Society. "Annual report of the Indiana engineering society (incorporated) Proceedings of the society." Indianapolis, IN: 1881-1930.According to A Standard History of Jasper and Newton Counties, Indiana members of the Indiana Engineering Society are county surveyors and other civil engineers of the state of Indiana. The society is also one of the oldest and most vigorous in the United States.Previous names that the Indiana Engineering Society went by are: Association of County Surveyors and Civil Engineers of the State of Indiana, 1881-1886; Indiana Society of Civil Engineers and Surveyors of the State of Indiana, 1887-1890; Indiana Engineering Society (of the State of Indiana), 1891-end. Folder 1 includes loose-leaf papers that have been bound together with a small binder. Folders 2-11 include loose-leaf papers of correspondence, meeting minutes, by-laws, financial reports, and member directories, in no particular order. Materials are arranged chronologically.

All original order of the materials has been retained. Materials have been housed in acid-free folders and an acid-free box.
