The Ferd Christen scrapbook (1918-1926; .45 cubic feet) documents Ferd Christen’s student life at Purdue University during the 1920s. Though Christen attended Purdue from 1922-1926, the scrapbook focuses mostly on the years 1924-1926. Christen collected mostly materials related to student events and organizations, especially those for/by Agriculture majors and the university-wide Junior Prom. Types of materials include: scrapbooks, photographs, booklets, clippings, tickets, dance cards, and programs.

Scrapbooks, booklets, clippings, dance cards, photographs, programs, and tickets documenting the student life of Agriculture major Ferd Christen.

Biographical or Historical Information

Ferguson “Ferd” Edward Christen was born October 24, 1902 in Root Township, Adams County, Indiana to parents Edward Christen and Fannie Marlow. He attended Purdue University from 1922-1926, where he was a member of the Delta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was also a member of Purdue’s R.O.T.C., various agriculture student groups, and the 1926 Junior Prom organizing committee. Christen graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1926. On September 14, 1935, Christen married Louise Marie McCarthy in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and the couple had three children together: Phyllis Ann, Samuel Ellis, and John Edward. Ferd and Louise lived in Decatur, Indiana for most of their married life, and Ferd was buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery there when he passed away on December 10, 1979. Processing Information

Original order of the materials has been retained.  All loose materials have been housed in polyester sleeves and returned to their original location.
