Biographical Information

Ferguson “Ferd” Edward Christen was born October 24, 1902, in Root Township, Adams County, Indiana to parents Edward Christen and Fannie Marlow. He attended Purdue University 1922-1926, where he was a member of the Delta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was also a member of Purdue’s R.O.T.C., various agriculture student groups, and the 1926 Junior Prom organizing committee. Christen graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1926. On September 14, 1935, Christen married Louise Marie McCarthy in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and the couple had three children together: Phyllis Ann, Samuel Ellis, and John Edward. Ferd and Louise lived in Decatur, Indiana for most of their married life, and Ferd was buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery there when he passed away on December 10, 1979.

Scope and Contents The Ferd Christen scrapbook documents Ferd Christen’s student life at Purdue University during the 1920s. The leather-bound scrapbook has a Purdue crest on the cover. Though Christen attended Purdue from 1922-1926, the scrapbook focuses mostly on the years 1924-1926.
