Biographical Statement
Everett B. Vawter was born on August 23, 1859, in Jennings County, Indiana. His family moved to Lafayette in 1864.
His father, Philemon C. Vawter, was a practical surveyor and civil engineer, and personally trained the young Everett. From 1885-1891, Everett served as the Tippecanoe County Surveyor.
In 1922 and 1923, Everett was a director at the Purdue State Bank. In 1930 he was a City Civil Engineer for West Lafayette, and was contracted by Purdue to work on the South Side Sewer System. By 1937 he was President of the West Lafayette Water Works Company.
In 1959 the Trustees of Purdue University renamed the Women's Residence Hall E to the Everett B. Vawter Hall, following donations to Purdue by Everett's son and daughter-in-law, Wallace R. and Helen Cripe Vawter.
