Interfraternity Council Chapters, 1922 - 2007
Scope and Contents
The sub-series consists of materials pertaining to 43 different fraternities governed by the Interfraternity Council, including active and inactive chapters. Most fraternity chapters have between two and five folders detailing their history and activities on Purdue’s campus. Various constitutions and by-laws are included in the folders. Most files in this sub-series contain the following: university memorandums, correspondence, constitutions and by-laws, newspaper clippings, police and disciplinary reports, newsletters, pledge and rush materials, fraternity brochures, housing contracts and agreements, chapter visitation reports, officer forms, event approval forms, annual reports, fire inspection reports, fraternity award applications, and chapter visitation summaries. Most of the correspondence concerns chapter policies and university regulations among involved/ responsible parties, including the Dean of Students, the Interfraternity Council, the chapter and national headquarters of the fraternity. Some correspondence and materials relate to hazing, alcohol and drug violations as well as community service and fraternity awards. Of particular interest might be the Dream Girl Calendars from the 1970s and 1980s (Pi Kappa Alpha folders) or the membership directories (Phi Kappa Sigma). Another highlight might be the Book of Knowledge (Sigma Alpha Mu), the Brotherhood Development Guide (Sigma Phi Epsilon) or the various applications packages for outstanding chapter awards.
