Biographical Information
John Hope Franklin was born on January 2, 1915 in Rentiesville, Oklahoma. He graduated from Fisk University in 1935, Harvard University with his MA in 1936, and Harvard University with his PhD in history in 1941. He taught at Fisk University, St. Augustine's College, North Carolina Central University, Howard University, and University of Cambridge. He served at chair of the history department at Brooklyn College and the University of Chicago. He was also appointed the James B. Duke Professor of History at Duke University. Franklin presented a published leture series titled "Racial Equality in America" in 1976. He was award many honors and prestigous positions during his time as a historian and educator. He died on March 25, 2009.
