Abel, Darrel

Biographical Information

Darrel Abel was born in Lost Nation, Iowa, in 1911. He took writing courses offered through the University of Iowa's writing program, later be known as the Iowa Writers Workshop. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees at Iowa and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Abel was a Fulbright professor at Freiburg University in Germany for a year and taught at the University of Saskatchewan before joining the English Department at Purdue University, where he taught for thirty years. He is the author of many articles and books about American Literature.
