Eliza Fowler Hall (West Lafayette, Ind.)

 Organization

Dates

  • Existence: 1903 - 1954

Historical Information

Purdue Assembly Hall, renamed Fowler Hall, was completed in 1903. The purpose of the hall was to contain the administration offices of the University and rooms for the meetings of the faculty and trustees. The hall also expanded space for commencements, chapel services, and executive offices that were previously housed in University Hall. Fowler Hall also contained a pipe-organ and portrait of Mrs. Fowler. The building was demolished in 1954 to make room for the new Purdue Memorial Center which is now the Stewart Center. There is still an Eliza Fowler Hall within the Stewart Center building which sits approximately where the original structure was.
