The Indiana history collection comprises materials related to the history of Indiana, its statehood, and its role in the Civil War.

The Purdue Memorial Union records contain information regarding the construction of the building, its uses, and promotional materials throughout its existence, including the student petition to raise funds and encourage the Board of Trustees to finish the building when construction was delayed due to World War I. Several pamphlets contain floor plans of the Union and show how the building has changed over the years with new additions.

The Steven and Clara Summers papers (1941-1945) documents the lives of Steven and Clara Summers and other family and friends during Steven’s service in the U.S. Army during World War II.  Types of materials include: correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, greeting cards, official military documents, portraits, and military artifacts.  The Papers are organized into six series.

The Collection of Locomotive Building Blueprints (1894-1965; 15.7 linear ft.) documents the foundation and structure of the locomotive testing laboratory at Purdue University. It also shows a later development of the building in the form of a garage and storage building.  Types of materials include: blueprints. The Blueprints are organized in chronological order.

Scope and Contents The Collection of the Purdue Train Wreck materials (1903-2006; 0.25 cubic feet) documents the Purdue Train Wreck of 1903.  The collection includes memorabilia, memorials, newspaper clippings, eye witness interviews, and an oral history pertaining to the tragic event.  This collection is made up of one series entitled Purdue Train Wreck.  This collection is extremely valuable to anyone interested in the history of Purdue University.
