The Collection of Robert Dale Owen notebooks contains three notebooks kept by Owen as a young man. Owen organized his notes by topic, with volumes related to science, engineering, Galileo, and a daily journal of his activities in spring 1824.

Notes on "Galileo" and Notes on various scientific subjects, 1827 - 1833
One half of the notebook contains research notes on Galileo Galilei. The other half, which begins from the other cover when flipped, documents Owen's travel across the Atlantic with notes on wildlife, ship construction, and scenery, as well as poetry and notes on language. Sketches include birds, fish, ships, and Caribbean islands. Includes list of "numerals in the Osage language" and sketch of Little Chief dated July 1827.
