Manuscripts, 1959 - 2008
This series contains both typed and handwritten manuscripts of short stories, poetry, essays, novels and novellas, plays, and sermons from throughout Smith's career. The bulk of the manuscripts are short stories. This series is organized chronologically, and Smith's folder names and numbering have been retained wherever possible. When a folder title was not given, one was created and placed in brackets on the folder.
Novels , 1981
This sub-series contains typed and hand-written manuscripts of novels written by Smith, notably several drafts of "The Old Man's Dream" and a portion of a mystery novel. The sub-series is arranged chronologically and Smith's folder titles were maintained wherever possible. Any folder titles in brackets were added during processing. Untitled folders were labeled according to the first line of the document.
