Charles C. Roberts came from Erie, Pennsylvania in 1946 to attend Purdue. He graduated in 1949 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While at Purdue, Roberts was involved in the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, the Wesley Foundation and the Purdue Independent Club (PIA). The PIA was formed as a response to Greek fraternities’ control of housing and student activities. The PIA became an option for students who didn’t want to join a fraternity but wanted to enjoy the connections and activities that a fraternity had access to. One of the PIA’s first achievements was to form the Reamer Club which would work to increase school spirit and student activities. In 1947, Roberts lived in the north section of Cary Hall.
