Biographical Information

Major L. A. Burke, of New Harmony, was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the creation of Purdue University when the Board was expanded on January 31, 1871. He served until June 2, 1874. Burke began servings as the Superintendent of the Purdue University Farm on April 1, 1874. the first years of the University. He was in charge of buildings, residences, implements, tools, and grounds, including their furnishment, labor, and maintenance.
