Biographical Information

Professor Lloyd D. Miller was born in Kosciusko County, Indiana, in 1901. Miller attended Indiana Central College and after graduating with his AB in English and Science spent twelve years as a teacher, two years as a high school principal, one year as a town school superintendent, and three years as a supervising teacher in biology at Indiana University Lab School. He earned his M.S. in Education from Indiana University in 1937 and joined the university's staff in 1938.

Miller joined Purdue University in 1942 in the Technical Extension Division's War Training Program as audio-visual supervisor. In 1950 he became the first full time Film Librarian. Miller was instrumental in the development of Purdue's Audio-Visual Center from the beginning of the first audio-visual committee in 1946. He was particularly interested in teacher education, knowing that it is the young people going out to teach that need to be well informed about the various media.

Miller became an Associate Professor in 1959 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1965. He was a member of D.A.V.I. where he served on a number of committees and was given the D.A.V.I. Pioneer Award in 1966. He was a past president and a charter member of A.V.I.D. and received their 1967 Merit Award.
