Scope and Contents

The Hicks Undergraduate Library scrapbook documents Esther E. Norton's involvement with the dedication and renaming of the Purdue Undergraduate Library (later the John. W. Hicks Undergraduate Library). The collection includes photographs of Norton with several university and library administrators at the dedication and renaming events, as well as several photographs of the Norton Reference Center. Invitations and program booklets for these events are also included. The last folder in this collection contains invitations to a memorial service following Norton's passing, held in Hicks Undergraduate Library in 1999. Clippings (information artifacts) are also part of the collection.

Historical Information

The Undergraduate Library was built to serve undergraduate students at the university and store excess library materials. It was named the John W. Hicks Undergraduate Library in 1989.
