Arrangement Note

The papers are organized into 2 series.

Series 1. Education, circa 1952-1960 (0.6 cubic feet). This subseries consists of 5 course workbooks from Duncan’s undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation, along with his “United States of America Department of Commerce, Civil Aeronautics Administration school graduation certificate in Aircraft Maintenance.” Also included are lecture notes, exams, notebooks, papers, reports, and syllabi from Education courses Duncan took at Purdue University. The Education 504 material contains various tests and measurements used during the 1950s.

Series 2. Purdue University Employment, 1951-1994 (1.75 cubic feet). Within this subseries is Duncan’s first teaching contract as a Purdue University “Instructor in Aviation Technician Program, Technical Institutes, Division of Technical Extension.” Also found here are some of the earliest papers from his employment at Purdue, and include departmental course outlines and exams prepared by James Maris, a helicopter course proposal, and guidelines for a proposed Airway Science curriculum. There are a few papers and correspondence from Duncan’s work with the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation Alumni Association, and Purdue Department Head’s Council.

One box in this series contains the Purdue Aeronautics Corporation maintenance manual, and all of the revisions from 1956-1958. The last box holds several miscellaneous items such as photographs, an Association for Avionics Education Conference Proceedings, and a Cooperative School and College Ability Test that were separated out for preservation purposes.
