Biographical or Historical Information

Donald A. Bloodgood (“Don”) was born on November 3, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Donald E. and Margaret V. Bloodgood. Donald and his family moved to West Lafayette, Indiana in 1943 when his father was offered a position as a professor in the Engineering Department at Purdue University. After graduating from West Lafayette High School in 1946, Don matriculated as a student of mechanical engineering at Purdue and became a member of several campus organizations, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Scabbard and Blade Fraternity, and Purdue Army ROTC. After graduating in 1951, Bloodgood served as the 1951 Class President for over 60 years. Don married Jo Ann Rose in 1954, a year after beginning his employment with Ross Gear and Tool Company (later renamed TRW). Bloodgood stayed with TRW for 41 years, and at the time of his retirement in 1994 Don worked as Director of Manufacturing Services. Bloodgood served in the US Army for thirty years, first in active duty during the Korean War then in the reserves until his retirement at the rank of Colonel. In 1996 he was inducted into the Purdue ROTC Hall of Fame. Don A. Bloodgood died on June 20, 2014 in West Lafayette, Indiana. Source: “Donald A. Bloodgood,” Soller-Baker Funeral Homes, Inc., 2014.
