Sarah J. Watlington, also known as Sally Watlington, is a retired Captain of the U.S. Navy and was the first female executive officer of an NROTC unit at Purdue University. She was born May 6, 1938 to William Thomas and Margaret Watlington in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Purdue University in 1960 with a BA. She received her MS in 1970 from the Naval Post Graduate School. Since retiring from her career in the Navy, Watlington has been highly active in her community and with philanthropic endeavors. In 1995, she was awarded a Sagamore of the Wabash Award by Governor Evan Bayh.
