Materials include two copies of Margaret Julia Lewis Ward's speech titled "Educating Our Daughters" given at the Monday Club in Lafayette, Indiana on January 19, 1953. Ward's speech discusses women's history and women's rights and the importance of teaching daughters about their history in order to achieve success beyond the home.

Biographical Information
Margaret Julia Lewis Ward graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1921, one of the first women to obtain this degree. She married fellow Civil Engineering graduate, Bevan Blau Lewis, in 1928. Ward worked as an editor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture after graduation. In 1957, the Bevan Blau and Margaret Ward Lewis Scholarship Fund was created at Purdue University, and in 2017, the Lewis children began the Margaret Julia Ward Award for Academic Excellence for students in civil engineering.
