Space and Flight Recordings collection

Artificial collection was created by the Purdue Archives and Special Collections staff. Materials within this collection were acquired through the Aviation and Transportation Technology Library, Purdue Audio-Visual Center, the Purdue Film Library, and other associated donations.

Materials in collection were from the two units within the Purdue Libraries Audio-Visual Center. One was the film library which contain circulating films and other audio-visual materials that students and staff could borrow. When the Film Library was discontinued, the recordings were transfered to the Purdue Archives and Special Collections. The flight and space recordings were seperated and added to this collection. The second unit was the Motion Pictures Production Unit (MPPU). The MPPU made and produced educational and promotional materials for Purdue University. One of thier annual projects was produce the Purdue Newsreel, a promotional film highlighting Purdue's accomplishments from the past year. For these films the MPPU filmed multiple events around campus and their own library of recordings that they could use for b - roll footage. The MPPU was later merged other departments and eventrually the Media and Marketing department took over the responsability of produceing the Purdue Newsreel. When the Media and Marketing Department took over they inhereditied the MPPU library of past productions and stock footage. In 2019 the Marketing and Media Department donated their recordings collections to the Pudue Archives and Special Collections. Recordings that contained Flight and Space recordings were added to this collection.
