Scope and Contents

This scrapbook documents the administration, participants, and results of the first National Intercollegiate Air Meet held June 21-22, 1935 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The scrapbook, created by the air meet manager, Charles H. Daudt, includes entry forms, race event rules, race maps, publicity material, participant scores for each event, and results. The scrapbook also includes correspondence related to the original donation of the scrapbook by Charles Daudt in 1976 to James R. Maris, Head of the Department of Aviation Technology.

Biographical Information

Charles H. Daudt served as the manager of the first National Intercollegiate Air Meet which took place at Purdue University June 21-22, 1935. Daudt received a bachelor's of mechanical engineering degree from Purdue Univesity in 1934. He was an American Airlines captain from 1942 until his retirement in 1970. He died in Connecticut in 2002 at the age of 90.

The scrapbook pages are brittle due to adhesive and a few cardboard inserts. Materials should be handled with care.

Custodial History

The scrapbook was originally donated by Charles H. Daudt in April 1976. The donation was made to James R. Maris, Head of the Department of Aviation Technology at Purdue University and facilitated by I. H. Knudson, Director of Purdue University Development.

Materials donated by Seanan Lee on behalf of the Purdue Flight Team in October 2020.

Processing Information

Binder housing the scrapbook was digitized and discarded. All materials have been rehoused in acid-free folders and boxes. Scrapbook pages were removed from the binder, numbered, and foldered for preservation.
