Biographical Information

John Roy Leevy was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois in 1900. He received a B. Ed. from Southern Illinois Normal in 1925; a B. S. in 1930 and M. A.s in 1933 and 1937 from the University of Illinois; and a D. Ed. in 1940 from Indiana University. Dr. Leevy joined the staff of Purdue University in 1939 as an instructor in sociology, was promoted to assistant professor in 1942, and associate professor in 1946. He was an established authority on city organization, housing and penology, and had authored numerous articles on education and sociology.
