Charles Klinger Collection of Limp Rivet issues
Scope and Contents
The collection (1946-1948; 0.4 cubic feet) documents post-World War II campus life in satirical fashion. According to the donor, Charles (Chuck) Klinger, the LIMP RIVET was a collegiate humor magazine comparable to the Harvard LAMPOON, Michigan State SPARTAN, Michigan GARGOYLE and the Ohio State SUNDIAL. Of particular interest might be the few loose pages from the Purdue Debris and a letter from the donor providing additional historical background, as he held various positions for the magazine during his time at Purdue, including Business Manager and Editor. The collection may be useful for researchers interested in collegiate humor magazines as well as student and campus life during the World War II era. Types of materials included: nine issues of the LIMP RIVET, loose pages.

Historical and Biographical Information
The Limp Rivet was a collegiate humor magazine at Purdue, started after World War II. Thomas R. Johnston, Director of the Bureau of Information, considered the title of the magazine "suggestive," upon which it became the Rivet in early 1948. The magazine featured interviews, photographs and stories about notable figures at that time, including Bob Hope and Henry Snyder.
Charles Klinger, a native of West Lafayette, is the son of E. L. Klinger, who taught at Purdue's Mathematics Department for 37 years. Charles Klinger attended Purdue for two years, during which he was heavily involved in the magazine's production. He held positions such as Promotion Manager and Editor.
