Historical Information

The study of Horticulture at Purdue began in 1884 with the appointment of Professor James Troop, who taught Horticulture, Entomology, and a variety of other agricultural subjects.  In 1912, Entomology and Horticulture were separated into two departments with Professors Troop and C.G. Woodbury serving as their respective heads.  Professor Laurenz Greene became head of Horticulture in 1917, when Woodbury was made director of the Purdue Agricultural Experiment Station.  The Landscape Architecture program was started in 1966.
