Scope and Contents
Presents basic concepts concerning why, when, and how to prune trees and shrubs. Discusses using proper tools and cutting techniques. Includes specific examples of actual pruning operations supplemented by overlay diagrams to show the portions of the plant to be removed before pruning is done. Uses a multi-stemmed shrub, a large over-grown shrub, small flowering and shade trees, and large limb removal from trees to illustrate proper cutting methods. Emphasizes studying pruning methods before cutting begins, how to avoid unsightly stubs, and safety procedures, especially with chain saws.
