From Relatives and Friends prior Kern's death, 1941 - 1945
Scope and Contents
The letters were sent to Elmer Jr's family before news about his death was shared. There are five envelopes. There is one letter from 1941, which was sent by Emma McCombs. It was an invitation card to Mr. Rollin Koenig McCombs's Commencement from the University of Colorado (August 23, 1941). There are four other letters. One is from Edward Lawrence, who is closely related to Rose who is also featured in this collection. Rose talks about Edward a lot in her letters, giving Elmer Jr updates because Edward is also in the military. Edward sent a letter to the family February 26, 1945 while he was in Italy. The second is from Elmer Jr's fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega dated March 8, 1945. It was a final call for the Founders Day banquet for alumni. The third one is from someone with the last name of Campbell, family/friend from Maywood, updating them about the town dated March 21, 1945. The fourth one is from Merrill, who is Weldon's and Edna's daughter and Elmer Jr's cousin, asking about the new house and Elmer Jr being in France dated March 26, 1945.
