Scope and Contents

This series contains letters that were written to Elmer F. Kern Jr from numerous people including family members and friends. In these letters, the senders told Elmer about their days, about what is happening in their lives, asking him how things are going, and other small conversation points. These letters were sent to him while he was at Purdue and to him at his numerous placements while in the military. Most of the letters remain in their original envelopes, so note the numerous different addresses of Elmer F Kern from 1943 to 1945. This series features several types of letters written on different types of stationary, postcards, and v-mail letters. The v-mail letters were written and sent by mother, father, and Ethel. Also featured in this series is a newsletter titled "The Proxy" from "The First Methodist Chruch of Maywood", which was dedicated for the service man of their church. This series gives a small insight to numerous people's personal lives through their updates to Elmer from all over the United States.
