Scope and Contents
These materials document Smith's work towards the completion of a doctorate in speech, with former Indiana governor Henry F. Schricker serving as the primary subject. The majority of the series consists of research conducted by Smith, including speech transcripts, newspaper articles, and publications gathered by Smith; research notes and lists of citations written by Smith; and interviews conducted by Smith. The series also contains papers Smith wrote for other classes on the subject of Henry Schricker, progress reports and professor feedback on his dissertation, and grant funding request forms.
The majority of the material were created between 1958 and 1960, when Smith was a Ph.D. student at Purdue. Some publications, news articles, and speech transcripts from the 1920s-1940s are present.
