Purdue was one of the pioneering institutions when it came to Railway Engineering. This series contains some of the historical information pertaining to the School's establishment and the testing laboratories. There are booklet's related to the locomotive testing plants (1892 - 1895), along with a bulletin of Purdue University titled, "Opportunities for Engineers in Railroad Service," by L.A. Downs, from 1928.

A key item within this series is the publication, Purdue University and the American Railways, A Pictorial Review of Their Joint Activities in Railway Mechanical Engineering, prepared by Gilbert Amos Young, Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, 1928. It includesd many historical photographs.
