Scope and Contents
Per the Mechanical Engineering History, 1882-1982, Purdue's Mechanical Engineering School played a key role in developing and upgrading 50 calibre machine guns for the Air Corp during World War II. Purdue was awarded with the Ordnance Distinguished Service Award, the first awarded to any university.
