Scope and Contents
Included among the nine letters are Cernan's acceptance letter into the University of Illinois Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program, letter from Purdue NROTC program stating that due to their quota of candiates exceeding positions available, he was not accepted into the program. The correspondence encouraged Cernan to apply for contract NROTC status. Correspondence also includes thank-you letters to Cernan for helping with the Purdue Midshipman's Ball and for his help with the Purdue Old Masters program in 1955.
