Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series: This sub-series includes three scrapbooks containing clippings; the first album contains Purdue football related articles from Lafayette, Indianapolis and Chicago newspapers. The clippings include an article about Purdue’s first football win on November 16, 1889, an article about the game against Wabash, November 23, 1889, that prompted the nickname “Boilermakers,” and the first game played against Indiana University in 1890. The second album contains newspaper clippings relating to the undefeated conference champions of 1929, and the third features newspaper clippings and photographs relating to the Purdue football team, circa 1930-1950s.

The sub-series contains other pertinent historical information, including books on the history of Purdue football and articles, including one by Purdue alum, George Ade (1887) and illustrated by alum, John T. McCutcheon (1889); “Football now and then and then and now,” November 16, 1929.
