Scope and Contents

From the Series: The research material consists of Purdue family genealogical information gathered in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Lafayette, Indiana. There are photographs from Purdue Mountain, PA, where it is thought that John Purdue's family lived when he was born. There is a roll of microfilm that is thought to contain information gathered by a relative in Galena, Ohio. Also related to the genealogical material is correspondence from those who had asked questions of Knoll, and who he in turn wrote to, in order to gather more information about the Purdue family’s history, including John Purdue's parents and sisters.

This series also has information about John Purdue's business dealings in New York City, from when he resided there from 1847 – 1865, his activities in the Lafayette, Indiana area, including notations and citations of local newspaper articles about his doings. There is information about his run for Congress in 1866. Lastly, there are notes and documents gathered from W.M. Hepburn, George Munro, and a few other people.
