Scope and Contents
Roy D. Bridges, Jr. submitted his first application for Space Shuttle Duty (Shuttle Pilot Program) on February 19, 1977. He was not selected the first time he applied and reapplied on October 30, 1979. He was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in May 1980. In November 1979 when informed of his selection by NASA, Bridges was assigned to Detachment 3 of the Air Force Flight Test Center, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada as a special projects officer. Beginning in July 1980 and ending in August 1981 Bridges completed a one year training and evaluation period at NASA.
This sub-series contains Bridges' astronaut applications, clippings in regards to selections, correspondence related to the selection process, press releases, PowerPoint slides (copies), "Astronaut Candidate Training Program," photographs, "NASA Astronaut Candidates Selected January 1980," and other miscellaneous documents.
