Scope and Contents

The items in the scrapbook are mainly from Cernan's eighth grade year. Items include his report card (also one for seventh grade), program from his eighth grade promotion exercises, graduation cards from family and firends, his award winning essay, "Our Great American Heritage - Liberty," along with the medal he won for taking 2nd place in the contest. Also included are photographs from what appears to be a class trip to Springfield, Illinois, to visit Abraham Lincoln memorial sites, various music programs and medals, an athletic letter and award certificate, school safety patrol badge, grade school basketball passes, medal, program and newspaper clipping, his 1948 diploma from McKinley Elementary School, class photo and various other items.
