Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Jack L. Beckett papers include photocopies of several letters written by Beckett while an undergraduate student at Purdue. The collection also includes a copy of Beckett's schedule card from 1942. Jack L. Beckett earned a BS in Metallurgical Engineering in 1943. During some of his time at Purdue, Beckett lived at Cary House. His letters include observations about the effects of World War II on Purdue’s campus, especially campus housing and services. They also comment on Purdue’s curriculum and assignments, sports and recreation, and other aspects of student life in the early 1940s. Beckett later served in the U.S. Army. In 1945, he fought and died at the Battle of the Bulge.
