Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Thomas Hendrix letters to Margaret Kennedy (1945-1947, 0.1 cubic feet) document the correspondence from Hendrix to Kennedy while Hendrix was a student and Navy V-12 member at Purdue University.  The letters describe Hendrix’s extracurricular activities and studies at Purdue, as well as his involvement in the V-12 program.  In the only letter from 1947, Hendrix alludes to an injury he sustained in an accident on campus, likely the bleacher collapse of February 1947.  In addition to the letters from Hendrix, there is one letter from an individual identified only as Ray to Kennedy that was added to one of the envelopes.  This collection might be useful for researchers interested in the World War II era at Purdue, the Navy V-12 program, correspondence and courtship in the 1940s, and student life in the same era.
