Correspondence and newspaper clippings regarding the legal issue of whether a collection belongs to the professor that collected, classified, and maintained it or to the university where the collection is kept and the professor employed. This issue was raised in 1918 when Dr. Joseph Charles Arthur attempted to remove his herbarium from Purdue University. Contains Arthur's obituary and Purdue University paperwork from 1918.
