Biographical Information

Ralph Benjamin Wiley held multiple positions at Purdue University during the course of his career. He began in 1910 as an instructor in sanitary engineering, eventually rising to professor of sanityar engineering in 1919. In 1937 Wiley was named head of the School of Civil Engineering; he concurrently served as the director of the Materials Testing Laboratory (1937-1954) and Joint Highway Research Project (1939-1954).
