Biographical Information

Harry G. Leslie, the 32nd Governor of Indiana, was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on April 6, 1878. He attended Purdue University and, as a member of the football team, was seriously injured in the 1903 train wreck. In 1904 he was elected Senior Class President and later became the University's first athletic director.

After graduating from Purdue, Leslie enrolled in the Indiana University Law School and later opened a law office in Lafayette. He was elected Tipton County Treasurer in 1912 and served in the State House of Representatives in 1923, 1925, and 1927. Leslie was elected Governor of Indiana in 1928.
