Biographical Information

James Alleman was a professor of civil engineering at Purdue from 1989 to 2005. During his time at Purdue Alleman collected slide rules and books. Alleman began collecting slide rules from alumni around 1987 out of personal interest and for a display to coincide with civil engineering centennial celebration in 1987.

Alleman received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1971, a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Notre Dame in 1972, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Notre Dame in 1978.

After his time at Purdue, Alleman as a Fulbright Scholar at the Technical University of Crete, Xania, Greece in 2006 and later became a professor at Iowa State University in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering.
