Biographical Information
Martin C. Jischke was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois in Maywood, a suburb of Chicago's west side. In 1963 he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics with honors from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He received his master's and doctoral degrees in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968.
Jischke was a member of the faculty of the University of Oklahoma's School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering for 17 years. From 1981 to 1986 Jischke was Dean of the College of Engineering. After serving as chancellor for the University of Missouri-Rolla for five years, Jischke was president of Iowa State University from 1991 to 2000. On August 14, 2000 Dr. Jischke became the tenth president of Purdue University. He served as president of Purdue from until 2007.
