Biographical Information
Joe Clifford Kercheval was born in Sheridan, Indiana, and graduated from Sheridan High School. Kercheval attended Purdue University, where he played on the Purdue football team, coached the team in the annual match against the faculty, and was director of the Athletic Association during his senior year. After graduating in 1896 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Kercheval returned to Sheridan and ran his family farm.
